Dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis) is a commonly occurring scalp condition in which the scalp gets dry. This chronic medical condition when caused by fungal overgrowth is called malassezia. 

Neither contagious nor serious, but dandruff can be difficult to treat. The white flakes of dead skin, itchy scalp and skin patches on the head are the key symptoms of dandruff.

Treatment: Antifungal or medicated shampoos, and topical corticosteroid for acute dandruff.
